MARIA de la CALLE, RN
Maria de la Calle, RN, is a charge nurse in the pediatric and cardiac intensive care units at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. She currently chairs the unit-based Operations Council and takes an active role in the hospital's process improvement initiatives. She started her career at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, after graduating from Loyola University. Maria has been employed as a traveling nurse, allowing her to work in some of the nation’s preeminent children’s hospitals and academic medical centers, and to hone her skills with a myriad of pediatric critical care technologies and treatments, including HFOV, ECMO, CRRT and the Berlin Heart. She continues to expand her clinical and consulting expertise by pursuing CCRN certification and legal nurse consulting. Maria is fluent in Spanish, and when she is not delivering care or consulting, you can catch her curled up with her two dogs reading a novel.

CHARLES EMPSON, MD
Dr. Charles (Chuck) Empson has been a primary care and emergency medicine physician for more than 35 years, achieving status as a Lifetime Member of both the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Medical Association. Chuck retired from his group practice in 2005 to focus his work on the Mercy Health System Emergency Department in Independence, Kansas. He also supervises the city’s emergency medical services (EMS) and mentors physician assistants in nearby communities. With a deep understanding of the medical profession and true compassion for the patients he serves, Chuck received the “Spirit of Mercy” award, twice, from his employer. Chuck’s past roles have included Mercy Hospital chief of staff, director of the Mercy Emergency Room and president of the Southeast Kansas Medical Society. He volunteers at a city-wide free clinic on a monthly basis and has served on the board of trustees of a local community college. Chuck earned his Medical Degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. A genuine animal lover, Chuck’s ideal downtime includes relaxing with his rescue dogs at their log home in the country.

GRACE KUBECKA
With more than 15 years of experience, Grace Kubecka has held leadership positions in healthcare organizations in the areas of human resources (HR) and training and development. She started her career as a consultant and analyst for a Big 5 accounting and consulting firm, and her experience includes building training departments, designing and delivering instructor-led and e-learning courses, selecting and implementing learning management systems, and developing human resources strategy. A strong project manager with an emphasis on process improvement, Grace has been responsible for the implementation of multiple HR, training and organizational processes. Grace holds a BBA in Management as well as a Master of Education in Adult Education and Human Resources Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin. Grace is also a long-time yogi and enjoys teaching local yoga classes.

ANDREA PEINOVICH, RN
Andrea (Andi) Peinovich is a registered nurse in the cardiac intensive care unit at one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals. She has 13 years of pediatric critical care experience, having worked in the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units of some of the most prestigious academic medical centers in the country. As an employee, traveling nurse and consultant, Andi has provided care to sick children at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, Columbia Presbyterian's Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in New York City, University of California San Francisco Medical Center, Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, Wisconsin Children’s Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She is currently training to become an ECMO specialist. Andi earned her nursing degree from the University of San Francisco. When she isn’t working, you can find her listening to her iPod while snowboarding.
